FAQs

Is there a fee to dance in TBT?

Yes. Each performer pays a fee to cover their classes, rehearsals, performances, costume hire and insurance. Dancers aged 18 years and older pay a heavily reduced fee to encourage the continuation of dance into adulthood. Please refer to the current prospectus for current fees.

What other expenses can we anticipate?

Production fees do not include the following: - Production Shirt and Uniforms - Personal Attire (Tights, Shoes etc) - Personal Expenses (Travel etc) - Photography and Videography

Are payment plans available?

Yes. To arrange a payment plan, please contact the Director to discuss and create a plan which suits your financial position.

Does TBT offer scholarships?

Yes. 2 to 3 scholarships are selected by the Director each year to dancers who have performed in at least one TBT production. These are awarded at the end of the APRIL production, and entitle the recipent to 50% of fees for the subsequent 12 months. Scholarships do not have any bearing on casting in future productions.

How is casting done?

Preliminary casting is determied at the Auditions by the Director. Casting decisions are based on a number of factors which include; the dancer's aethsetic, technical ability, performance quality and suitability for the role. No discussion is entered into regarding casting decisions by the director.

Why cannot casting be discussed with the Director?

Preliminary Casting which is released by the Director indicates the the DIRECTOR can make amendments if so required. TBT families do not have any input to these decisions therefore such discussions are not permitted. The Director has always 'created' roles in shows where dancers show merit, and casting is made to showcase the strengths of the entire company. Group work is equally as important as 'special roles' to create a production. It is also important to note that TBT is a company, not a studio. Where dancers demonstrate exceptional work ethic and commitment to 'special' roles, they are likely to be considered for 'special' parts again inthe future.

When and how are rehearsal schedules released?

These are released as soon as they are ready! These are uploaded into the HUB and a message advising of these uplaods is posted in the Facebook Group. Please check you have notifications turned on for this group so as not to miss anything important! The Director aims to get these out to families as soon as possible, so they can make necessary arrangements with travel etc. Each show has a unique structure and so scheduling a variety of scenes and casting crossovers is an enormous job! Due to the huge time requirment in creating the scheudles, requests to change the schedule cannot be considered as small changes can have a large domino effect on the rest of the day. The Director makes her best efforts to reduce waiting around periods between rehearsals, however sometimes it's simply not possible.

What is a split cast?

Older dancers in the productions are sometimes split in castin.g (ie. they perform as one role in one show and swap roles for a different show). This requires costuming to be exchanged between shows and addtional rehearsal times. Split Casts are offerred to older dancers to increase the opportunity to learn and perform soloist roles, but also to ensure we have a 'cover' for each role in case of injury, illness or other incident. The Director will select which cast will perform art which show, and also which performance/cast is recorded for video. Depending on availability, the Director arrnges for both casts to be photographed.

Which rehearsals am I required to come to?

Refer to your casting notes to see which rehearsals include your casting groups. Dancers are required at ALL rehearsals they are scheduled in. A warm up class is also offerred at the beginning of each rehearsal period. Dancers are required to attend these for dance safe practises. The only exception here is where the schedule indluces more then a 90m break between the warm up class and the first rehearsal. In this instance dancers are expected to warm up beforte their first rehearsal and may use the studios to do so.

What if I cannot make a rehearsal?

Dancers are permitted to miss no more than TWO rehearsal days. These can be for studio commitments onlys - eg. dance concerts, groups eisteddfods. Absences must be approved by the Director. Where dancers are granted an absence, they are expected to review and catch up on choreography using the videos uplaoded in the Facebook Group "TBT Choreo." Absences are granted on the understanding that dancers are not to delay subsequent rehearsals by requiring missed choreography to be retaught. The Director may remove dancers from scenes if they miss rehearsals and do not make efforts to catch up on missed sections.

How to I request an absence?

Please request absences using the Absence Request Form.

What items do I need for rehearsals and performances?

TBT Uniform (except for 'free dress days' or where advised) must be worn to all rehearsals. Refer to your COSTUME FILE for footwear requirements specific to each role. Performence shoes and tights are not to be worn in classses, please reserve these for Photo Days and Performances. Pointe Shoes, where required, are expecgted to be CLEAN for performances and photo days, and must be correctly broken in. 'Dead' shoes create a high risk situation for dancers and should not be worn. No canteen facilities are available on site, please bring sufficient food and water to fuel the long days.
